Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee the successful completion of all asphalt paving projects for PKS Paving. The Paving Crew Foreman will participate in the planning and scheduling of paving work and lead field crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. Additional responsibilities include site evaluation, crew supervision, quality control, and maintaining communication with management, sales, and clients. The Paving Crew Foreman will work closely with the office and field teams to ensure that project standards and company integrity are maintained throughout each phase of construction.

Responsibilities

  • Review plans, specifications, and project documentation to assist in estimating materials, labor, and equipment needs.
  • Manage project objectives, timelines, and budgets to ensure quality standards and work plans are met.
  • Supervise daily paving operations and coordinate schedules, trucking, and subcontractors to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Assess and mitigate project risks while maintaining compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Communicate proactively with sales, scheduling, management, crews, subcontractors, and clients; provide clear on-site direction and respond to inquiries promptly.
  • Manage and track job changes, including preparing change orders when required.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices and ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Coordinate with other departments to align resources and ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Optimize field operations and paving techniques for maximum productivity and quality.
  • Oversee the hiring, development, and supervision of paving foremen and crews.
  • Monitor crew hours weekly to ensure budget compliance and adherence to company work-hour policies.
  • Complete daily dispatch sheets and provide clear instructions to field crews.
  • Ensure timesheets and related documentation are submitted accurately and on time.
  • Review and verify daily reports and Pavement Soft entries for accuracy.
  • Use survey or grade control equipment to ensure proper grading, slope, and drainage prior to paving.
  • Ensure subgrade and base materials meet project specifications.
  • Monitor asphalt placement for quality control—identifying issues with mix, compaction, grade, or finish and making necessary corrections.
  • Ensure all paving personnel are properly equipped with and using PPE, promoting a culture of “Safety First.”
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in paving or asphalt construction, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
    • Strong understanding of asphalt paving methods, materials, and equipment.
    • Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, dust, etc.).
    • Willingness to travel or work away from home as needed.
    • Availability for nights, weekends, and overtime when required.
    • Strong work ethic, leadership, and team-building skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for interaction with staff, clients, and the public.
    • Ability to interpret construction plans and specifications.
    • Knowledge of jobsite safety and ability to enforce compliance.
    • Proficiency with basic technology (tablets, project management software, and digital reporting tools).
    • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
    • Must comply with company drug and alcohol testing requirements.
    • Demonstrates professionalism, adaptability, attention to detail, and a positive, goal-oriented attitude.

     

    Physical Requirements:

    • Occasionally in sedentary work that primarily involves sitting and standing
